Digital Citizenship Day

A Digital Citizen:

  • is aware of ICT challenges and can manage them effectively
  • uses ICT to relate to others in positive, meaningful ways
  • demonstrates honesty and integrity and ethical behaviour in their use of ICT
  • respects the concepts of privacy and freedom of speech in a digital world
  • contributes and actively promotes the values of digital citizenship

We spent time talking about being a good digital citizen. We developed a class set of rules.
At the end of the day we wrote some sentences about what we have learnt.

SC: I have a title
I have an opening statement
I have described what it looks like
I have described where it lives

I have at least two other facts

The African Lion

Lions are very rare.
Humans have been killing them for years.

Their home is the African grasslands. Their food is zebras and meerkats. Their predators are hyenas and people.

Only male lions have manes. Lions have very big teeth.

I think lions are scary.

Elephants

The elephant lives in the forest.
The elephant eats bark and grass.
One type of elephant lives in India.
Elephants can live to be over 70 years old.
The elephant’s predators are lions.
By Charley

Penguins

The penguins have different coloured feet.  Penguins live  in forests in NZ especially up the top of NZ.

It eats fish, bait and birds. Its habitat is living in the cold forests near the oceans.

The predators are dogs, seals, otters and reindeer.

Penguins have different coloured skin. Penguins slide on their tummies and they have different shaped bones to people.

They also live in the North Pole and they are very endangered. They can get washed up on the beach and they can get stuck in rubbish on the beach.

Penguins also float on their tummies in the water, they are very good swimmers.

Penguins are unlike most sea animals. They survive because their feathers trap a layer of warm air close to their skin.

The Red Ant

The red ant is an insect.

The red ant will eat ham (cut up), white eggs, cheese and sugar.

It lives in mounds of soil.

It’s predators are armadillos, ant lions, spiders, birds and the horned lizard.

Did you know the red ant has a proper name? It is salenopsis.

Another fact is, it has a painful sting.

There are millions of ants but the red ant hurts the most.
